Atharvaveda Samhita — Kanda 20 — Chapter 98

AV 20 98.1

त्वाम् इद् धि हवामहे साता वाजस्य कारवः । त्वां वृत्रेष्व् इन्द्र सत्पतिं नरस् त्वां काष्ठास्व् अर्वतः

tvām id dhi havāmahe sātā vājasya kāravaḥ | tvāṃ vṛtreṣv indra satpatiṃ naras tvāṃ kāṣṭhāsv arvataḥ

It is you indeed we singers call upon in the winning of the prize; you, Indra, the men (call) lord of the good in battles with foes, you in the race-courses of the steed.

AI translation rendered from the Sanskrit, not a published edition

Compare with Ralph T.H. Griffith

That we may win us wealth and spoil we poets verily call on thee. In war men call on thee, Indra, the hero's Lord, in the steed's, race-course call on thee.

— tr. Ralph T.H. Griffith (1895–96)

AV 20 98.2

स त्वं नश् चित्र वज्रहस्त धृष्णुया मह स्तवानो अद्रिवः । गाम् अश्वं रथ्यम् इन्द्र सं किर सत्रा वाजं न जिग्युषे

sa tvaṃ naś citra vajrahasta dhṛṣṇuyā maha stavāno adrivaḥ | gām aśvaṃ rathyam indra saṃ kira satrā vājaṃ na jigyuṣe

So you, brilliant one, with the bolt in hand, boldly, being greatly praised, O lord of the stone, heap together for us cow and chariot-horse, Indra — altogether, as prize for one who has conquered.

AI translation rendered from the Sanskrit, not a published edition — the model flagged this verse as uncertain

Compare with Ralph T.H. Griffith

As such, O Wonderful whose hand holds thunder, praised as mighty, Caster of the Stone. Pour on us boldly, Indra, kie and chariot-steeds, ever to be the conqueror's strength.

— tr. Ralph T.H. Griffith (1895–96)
