Atharvaveda Samhita — Kanda 20 — Chapter 55

AV 20 55.1

tam indraṃ johavīmi maghavānam ugraṃ satrā dadhānam apratiṣkutaṃ śavāṃsi | maṃhiṣṭho gīrbhir ā ca yajñiyo vavartad rāye no viśvā supathā kṛṇotu vajrī

That Indra I call again and again, the bounteous, the fierce, holding his powers wholly, unrepelled; may the most liberal, worthy of worship, be turned hither by our songs; may the bearer of the vajra make all paths good for us, for wealth.

Compare with Ralph T.H. Griffith

Oft, oft I call that Indra, Maghavan the mighty, who evermore possesses power, ever resistless. Holy, most liberal, may he lead us on to riches, and, thunder armed, make all our pathways pleasant for us.

— tr. Ralph T.H. Griffith (1895–96)

AV 20 55.2

या इन्द्र भुज आभरः स्वर्वाꣳ असुरेभ्यः । स्तोतारम् इन् मघवन्न् अस्य वर्धय ये च त्वे वृक्तबर्हिषः

yā indra bhuja ābharaḥ svarvāṁ asurebhyaḥ | stotāram in maghavann asya vardhaya ye ca tve vṛktabarhiṣaḥ

The enjoyments, O Indra, which thou, possessing the sun-light, didst carry off from the Asuras—strengthen with these the praiser, O bounteous one, and those who have spread the barhis for thee.

Compare with Ralph T.H. Griffith

Indra, what joys as Lord of Light thou broughtest from the Asuras, Prosper therewith, O Maghavan, him who lauds that deed, and those whose grass is trimmed for thee.

— tr. Ralph T.H. Griffith (1895–96)

AV 20 55.3

यम् इन्द्र दधिषे त्वम् अश्वं गां भागम् अव्ययम् । यजमाने सुन्वति दक्षिणावति तस्मिन् तं धेहि मा पणौ

yam indra dadhiṣe tvam aśvaṃ gāṃ bhāgam avyayam | yajamāne sunvati dakṣiṇāvati tasmin taṃ dhehi mā paṇau

The horse, the cow, the woollen portion which thou, Indra, hast held for thyself—place it in the sacrificer who presses and gives the dakṣiṇā, not in the Paṇi.

AI translation rendered from the Sanskrit, not a published edition

Compare with Ralph T.H. Griffith

The wasteless share of steeds and kine which, Indra, thou hast fast secured. Grant to the worshipper who presses Soma and gives guerdon, not unto the churl.

— tr. Ralph T.H. Griffith (1895–96)
