For you alone, O Old Age, let this one grow; let not the other deaths, the hundred that there are, harm him; like a mother attentive to her son in her lap, let Mitra guard him from the distress that comes from a friend.

This Child, Old Age! shall grow to meet thee only: none of the hundred other deaths shall harm him. From trouble caused by friends let Mitra guard him, as a kind mother guards the son she nurses.

Let Mitra, or Varuṇa the destroyer of foes, in accord with each other make him one whose death is (only) in old age; and let Agni the hotṛ, knowing the (right) times, declare all the births of the gods.

Mitra or Varuna the foe-destroyer, accordant, grant him death in course of nature! Thus Agni, Hotar-priest, skilled in high statutes, declareth all the deities' generations.

त्वम् ईशिषे पशूनाम् पार्थिवानां ये जाता उत वा ये जनित्राः । मेमं प्राणो हासीन् मो अपानो मेमं मित्रा वधिषुर् मो अमित्राः

tvam īśiṣe paśūnām pārthivānāṃ ye jātā uta vā ye janitrāḥ | memaṃ prāṇo hāsīn mo apāno memaṃ mitrā vadhiṣur mo amitrāḥ

You rule over the earthly animals, those that are born and those yet to be born; let not breath (prāṇa) abandon this one, nor the out-breath (apāna); let neither friends slay him nor enemies.

Thou art the Lord of all terrestrial cattle, of cattle born and to be born hereafter. Let not breath drawn or breath emitted fail him. Let not his friends, let not his foemen slay him.

Let Heaven your father and Earth your mother, in accord, make you one whose death is (only) in old age, so that you may live in Aditi's lap, guarded by in-breath and out-breath, a hundred winters.

Let Heaven thy father and let Earth thy mother, accordant, give thee death in course of nature, That thou mayst live on Aditi's bosom, guarded, a hundred winters, through thy respirations.

Lead this one, O Agni, to long life and to splendour; (lead) the dear seed, O Varuṇa, O king Mitra; like a mother, O Aditi, extend shelter to him; O All-Gods, that he may reach old age.
