यन् मे छिद्रं मनसो यच् च वाचः सरस्वती मन्युमन्तं जगाम । विश्वैस् तद् देवैः सह संविदानः सं दधातु बृहस्पतिः

yan me chidraṃ manaso yac ca vācaḥ sarasvatī manyumantaṃ jagāma | viśvais tad devaiḥ saha saṃvidānaḥ saṃ dadhātu bṛhaspatiḥ

What flaw of my mind there is, and what of my speech—Sarasvatī has gone to the wrathful one—may Bṛhaspati, in accord with all the gods, put that together.

mā na āpo medhāṃ mā brahma pra mathiṣṭana | suṣyadā yūyaṃ syandadhvam upahūto 'haṃ sumedhā varcasvī

O waters, do not shake away our insight, nor our sacred formula; do you flow, easily flowing; invoked am I, of good insight, full of splendour.

Compare with Ralph T.H. Griffith

Disturb ye not our intellect, O Waters, nor the power of prayer_ Glide on your way, strength-giving, invocated: may I be vigor- ous and wise.

AV 19 40.3

mā no medhāṃ mā no dīkṣāṃ mā no hiṃsiṣṭaṃ yat tapaḥ | śivā naḥ śaṃ santv āyuṣe śivā bhavantu mātaraḥ

Do not harm our insight, nor our consecration, nor the ascetic heat that is ours; let (the waters) be kindly, a blessing for our life; let the mothers be kindly.

Compare with Ralph T.H. Griffith

Mar not our consecrating rite, our intellect, or fervent zeal. Gracious to us for lengthened life, propitious let the Mothers be.

— tr. Ralph T.H. Griffith (1895–96)

(The nourishment) that is full of light, which shall carry us across the darkness — that refreshment, O Aśvins, may the two of you grant to us.

Vouchsafe to us, ye Asvins twain, such strength as, with atten- dant light, May through the darkness carry us.
