(Now) I declare to you (the mantra) called Pātāla: "Oṃ kṣauṃ, homage to the Lord Narasiṃha, whose splendour equals a thousand crores of blazing suns, whose weapons are adamant claws and fangs, whose roar is the thunder of the clouds over the great ocean churned up by his bristling, dreadful, outspread mane and hair, who carries all mantras across (to their goal). Come, come, Lord Narasiṃha! By the truth of the Person, the higher and lower Brahman, throb, throb! Yawn wide, yawn wide! Stride forth! Roar, roar! Loose, loose your lion-roars! Rend, rend! Rout, rout! Enter [notes: 1. 'dara dara' is the reading of the manuscripts marked kha, ga, ṅa; 2. Move, move! Tear, tear! Burst, burst! Shatter, shatter! O you who are a mass of garlands of flame, with your discus of endless flame, adamant and lightning on every side, destroy, destroy all the nether worlds! With your cage of arrows of endless flame and adamant on every side, encircle, encircle all the nether worlds! Draw out, draw out the hearts of all the demons dwelling in the nether worlds! Quickly burn, burn! Cook, cook! Crush, crush! Dry up, dry up! Cut down, cut down—until they have come under my control! Phaṭ to the nether worlds! Phaṭ to the demons! Phaṭ to the mantra-forms! Phaṭ to the classes of mantras! From danger, O Lord Viṣṇu in the form of Narasiṃha, from all calamities, from all mantra-forms, protect me, protect me! Hrūṃ phaṭ [variants: 'protect, protect, oṃ phaṭ' in the manuscript marked kha; 'protect, protect, hrīṃ phaṭ' in the manuscript marked ga]. Homage be to you!" This is the vidyā of Narasiṃha, which grants the goal in the form of Hari.
