Thus, in the great Āgneya Purāṇa, the two-hundred-and-ninety-fifth chapter, called "The Rules for the Five-limbed Rudra (Mantra)." || Chapter 296: Now the two-hundred-and-ninety-sixth chapter: the mantra and the medicine that remove poison. Agni said: "Oṃ, homage to the Lord Rudra—cut, cut the poison!—and to him who holds a blazing axe in his hand. Homage to the Lord Pakṣirudra: raise up, raise up the bitten one! Make the bitten one tremble, tremble! Make him speak, speak! Raise up the snake-bitten one! lala, bind, bind! gocaya, gocaya! O excellent Rudra, go, go! Strike, strike! Break, break! Terrify, terrify! With your fist gather up the poison, ṭha ṭha!" Indeed by the Pakṣirudra (mantra) poison comes to destruction through the reciting of it. "Oṃ, homage to the Lord—O Rudra, destroy the poison, whether stationary or moving; destroy artificial and natural poison and secondary poison; destroy the manifold poison, the poison of the bitten one! Blow, blow! Subdue, subdue! Vomit, vomit! Drawing on the stream of cloud-darkness, become free of poison! Gather it up, gather it up! Go, go! Make it enter, make it enter!" This has the form of drawing out the poison; at the end of the mantra comes the holding of the poison: "Oṃ, cast! Oṃ, cast, svāhā! Oṃ hrīṃ khīṃ saḥ ṭhaṃ drauṃ hrīṃ ṭhaḥ." One who has mastered it by recitation and the rest binds snakes constantly. (1)

O golden-winged one, Rudra commands: ṭha ṭha!" This is the mantra that convulses the netherworld; by its recitation poison is destroyed. When there is a bite by a biting snake, the bitten one at once (should have) the bite (cut out) from the body with wood, stone, or the like,
